Woodlawn High School Mural Restoration

Woodlawn Murals

Those of us who attended the Woodlawn High School Community Leader Breakfast had the pleasure of hearing from school officials and others in Woodlawn and the surrounding areas about various current and upcoming school and neighborhood projects and programs. One presenter was John Bertalan with Conservation Technologies Inc. He and his team are working to restore the  Woodlawn High School Mural. Kudos to Mountain Brook Mayor, Terry Oden, and other Woodlawn High School graduates for getting the project going and for securing funding from alumni across the nation. The local neighborhood associations, several businesses, and many other organizations have also been instrumental in securing financial and community support. This is a great example of collaboration of individuals from different areas in the Birmingham metro area. I love seeing people come together to accomplish a common goal and garner resources to help preserve the rich history of this neighborhood. Mr. Bertalan told us the restoration process will take about four months to complete once the remainder of the funds are raised.  I’m working on getting more information for those who are interested in making a donation.  Look for more updates in the near future!

I'm a wife, mama, friend, daughter and neighbor with a passion for community development, the arts and social justice. I spend a lot of my time caring for my family, having conversations, walking my dog and sitting on my front porch. I believe life is story. And I'm living proof that art, music and dance can help make everything better. I write about my neighborhood and my city at the35212.com, and I volunteer with Desert Island Supply Co., a creative writing nonprofit based in Woodlawn.
