our35212: Woodlawn Methodist’s Matt Lacey

Jan 22, 2010 No Comments by Charlotte

mattlaceyEarlier this week I had the pleasure of meeting Matt Lacey, a minister who recently started working at WUMC. He is excited about pastoring the church’s congregation with Reverend Larry Horne and is looking forward to getting involved in our community.  We are glad he agreed to share a bit about himself here at the35212.com.

What brought you to the neighborhood?
I just work here now (Woodlawn UMC)–maybe in 6 months or so, I’ll be a permanent neighbor.

What is one of your favorite things about this neighborhood?
The richness and diversity of cultures, attitudes, people

What is a typical day like for you?
Dream about how Woodlawn could be a hub of new activity–a space of new creation

What item do you prefer to not live without?
iPhone–I know my dependence is sad…

Which living person do you most admire?
What a cruel question…I don’t know…probably Bill Murray

Where do you do your best thinking?
In the morning, on the tail end of a coffee buzz, at a desk, surrounded by books

What/who inspires you?
Potential (ok…and my wife Katie)

What do you value most in your friends?
Their idiosyncrasies

What do you appreciate most about our neighborhood?
The vivid interest of the people for their community

Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’m new to work in the neighborhood, and would like to stay informed about what’s going on/how I can become involved.

Y’all feel free to leave a comment letting Matt know how to get involved. We’d love to hear your suggestions.

I'm a wife, mama, friend, daughter and neighbor with a passion for community development, the arts and social justice. I spend a lot of my time caring for my family, having conversations, walking my dog and sitting on my front porch. I believe life is story. And I'm living proof that art, music and dance can help make everything better. I write about my neighborhood and my city at the35212.com, and I volunteer with Desert Island Supply Co., a creative writing nonprofit based in Woodlawn.
