Edge 12: New Films for 5/20/2011
Five new films are opening at The Edge 12 today:
- African Cats: A nature documentary produced by the Walt Disney Company to celebrate Earth Day 2011, African Cats centers on two cat families and how they teach their cubs the ways of the wild. Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson. (Rated G)
The African Cats trailer contains some eye-popping location photography:
- Jane Eyre: After a bleak childhood, Jane Eyre goes out into the world to become a governess. As she lives happily in her new position at Thornfield Hall, she meets the dark, cold, and abrupt master of the house, Mr. Rochester. Jane and her employer grow close in friendship and she soon finds herself falling in love with him. Happiness seems to have found Jane at last, but could Mr. Rochester’s terrible secret be about to destroy it forever? Based on the classic work of literature by Charlotte Brontë, this version of the story features Mia Wasikowska (Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland; HBO’s In Treatment) as the titular heroine, and Michael Fassbender as Rochester. (Rated PG-13)
Jane Eyre trailer:
- Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides : Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz). He’s not sure if it’s love or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Deadwood‘s Ian McShane), Captain Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past. Also starring Geoffrey Rush, a whole bunch of skeletons, and Keith Richards as Captain Jack’s dear old dad. (Rated PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean trailer:
- Prom: A group of teenagers gets ready for their high school prom. If you’re afraid of re-living that experience, never fear: this is a Disney production, and all ends well. (Rated PG)
Prom trailer:
- Something Borrowed: Friendships are tested and secrets come to the surface when terminally single Rachel (the poorly-spelled Ginnifer Goodwin) falls for Dex (Colin Egglesfield), her best friend Darcy’s (Kate Hudson) fiancé. (Rated PG-13)
